DJ Ray Rhodes has been spinning music since junior high school, when he used to ride his bike down to the local newsstand to read the pop charts in “Billboard” magazine. This Los Angeles native would then produce his own top ten show at home that his brother and friends would listen to. Following his passion, Ray attended UCLA where he produced the campus’s weekly countdown show, as voted on by the students.

Although he has a degree in Electrical Engineering, Ray joined the staff at KBIG 104.3 in 1994. He has been the DJ and music producer for KBIG’s "Disco Saturday Night." He also helped to create and produce “Boogie Nights.” The show featured a diverse selection of Disco, 80’s, 90’s, and present-day mainstream club music.

Working in radio and deejaying at many clubs around the Los Angeles area, Ray teamed up with DJs Jason Lavitt and Howie T. to create their own club. “We created TigerHeat because we felt the club scene was stagnant,” he reveals. “There was a void. Pop music was becoming cool again, but in 2000 to 2001 no one was playing it, the music people knew and loved. So we did it.”

With the overwhelming success of TigerHeat, Ray has gone on to produce many events for TigerHeat itself and deejay at top events around the country. Most recently, he deejayed a high profile Playboy event in Washington. He has also deejayed at Gay Days Knott’s Berry Farm, Gay Days Anaheim, AIDS Project Los Angeles, the West Hollywood Halloween Carnivale, The White Party in Palm Springs, and for Disney’s New Year’s Eve party at California Adventure. He also spins at "OUT on the Mountain," an event he created and produces yearly at Six Flags Magic Mountain at the end of September. With so many prominent gigs over the years, it is no surprise that he won the WeHo Award for “Outstanding Disc Jockey” in 2006.

When asked about his reaction to the TigerHeat crowd from his bird’s eye view in the deejay booth, Ray said, “The most important thing is all the planning, research, and booking performers and then seeing everyone getting excited about it on the dance floor. They’re there because they want to be. They love us every week. And it is so cool making a living by making people happy through music.” With that, we will see Ray spinning and smiling in the deejay booth.
